Our well trained staff will look after you willingly, discreetly, and always with a smile. They are what makes your stay at Fatuma’s such a success and they are available for your needs throughout the day for answers to questions, teas, meals, coffees, coconuts or alcoholic drinks, as well as a full laundry service.
Our food is the envy of many of the guest houses in Shela and we use only the freshest of ingredients. We can prepare for lunch, or dinner, or both if you wish. The cuisine is a blend of Swahili which takes its influence from both Africa and India with tamarind, ginger, garlic, lime, and fragrant spices. Chai tea, coffee, and filtered water are all available.
Our menus use local produce only, with wonderful herbs and fruits that are full of taste and flavour, and we use only the freshest of fish and local shellfish from the day’s catch, as well as your favourite and widely familiar European dishes.

Food choices, preferences, and alcohol are discussed directly with our staff and are ordered according to your choice. Our lunches & dinners are served at food shopping cost and you pay our staff directly. We kindly request you to pay a service gratuity to our personnel for this service as well as a reasonable tip.

GUEST TESTIMONIALS

“If these chefs were to open a restaurant back home they would be an overnight success! I was expecting good local food but this is truly ‘cuisine’ and over our long stay there was not one meal which did not hit the spot. It made eating elsewhere dull and disappointing by comparison, and to sit in the sensitively lit, magical garden at night was something we looked forward to every evening.” Michael, London.

“Beautiful accommodation in a beautiful part of the world. The room itself was spotlessly cleaned each morning whilst we enjoyed a fresh breakfast in the garden. This was the best breakfast in Lamu with seasonal fruits, real ground coffee and pancakes. We only chose to eat dinner here one night and it was the best meal we had on Lamu.” Eoin, IRELAND

“The garden is beautiful, welcoming and peaceful without being overly manicured. The plunge pool feels like a secret spring. Every room in the house, every light, and every antique wooden table and Lamu style daybed is unique, interesting, and extremely comfortable and inviting. Everything looks like it is exactly where it was supposed to be, though I’m sure it was carefully thought through. The whole place is just rejuvenating and you feel like you’ve been living there for years, even though I’ve never been anywhere like it.” Alistair, Nairobi

“I never really believe the star ratings you see on all these booking sites but Fatuma’s Tower, and the team led by Angelika are truly 5 star.”Fiona, UK.
